Win Conditions

Rosalina & Luma's Win Conditions:
Use Luma to bodyblock projectile confirms, opening up more opportunities for
autocancel Luma combos and juggle situations, which Young Link has a hard time dealing with. Set Luma up at ledge to deny Young Link from recovering.

Young Link’s Win Conditions:
Keep Rosalina away in neutral, and keep her stuck in the corner. Knock Luma out of the picture whenever possible, and find confirms while she’s struggling to escape the corner or land.

Out of Shield

Note: Rosalina is made much safer due to Luma when they are together, but their frame advantages are often different. All of Rosalina's data will be this color, and Luma's will be this color. For a deeper explanation (fully optimal they are extremely plus on shield), check here.

Neutral
What Moves To Watch Out For, When Neutral Is Happening, Main Strategies and Mix-Ups, Spacing, Stage Control.

  • Neutral Moves: BAir, NAir, Tilts, Jab, Luma Desyncs (Attack cancel dash, wavelands).

  • Kill Moves: BAir, UAir, DAir, Smash Attacks.

  • Kill Confirms: NAir (With or without attack cancelled Luma) > Landing UAir > UAir, autocancel NAir Jablocks, Wavedash Luma setup > reset or Fsmash.

  • NAir with Luma’s DTilt makes for a nasty Jablock setup, be ready to tech.

  • Projectiles won’t serve the same purpose as they usually do in the MU. Luma can easily body block a lot of projectiles, alongside Rosalina having Gravitational Pull, ruining some of our confirm potential. Though it doesn’t mean too much, you’ll have to be a bit more careful with projectiles.

  • Do not Pummel when Luma is alive, otherwise you’ll get interrupted mid-Grab.

  • Playing around Luma and removing him is a huge part of the MU. Sometimes in combos, you’ll want to prioritize removing Luma instead of following up on Rosalina.

  • If Rosalina and Luma are separated, be careful of Luma hitting you on the way back returning to Rosalina.

  • For more information about Luma itself, check the miscellaneous section.

  • Boomerang still finds its use in controlling the air, since Rosalina is an extremely floaty character.

  • Fire Arrow is really good at disrupting Luma on the ground. Just rapid-firing it can stuff Luma from doing anything, and even stuffs Luma Shot.

  • Bomb can simply be taken by Gravitational Pull, but it still has its uses onstage for having some projectile play while being trapped in the corner. It’s not amazing, though.

  • ZAir is quite useful in this MU. It can poke Luma safely, make it easy to pressure them in the corner, and safely contest them instead of resorting to stubby limbs.

  • ZAir will hit grounded Rosalina and not Luma when used at the peak of a short hop.

Disadvantage
Above Stage, Ledgetrapping, Edgeguarding

Boxing

(How do I escape this situation?):

  • Arrow and Boomerang aren’t as good here because they won’t pressure Rosalina well. Bomb is a better pull here.

  • Watch for Luma in this situation, as Rosalina could desync him.

  • Don’t fall for shielding unnecessarily, as Rosalina can dash cancel Grab to throw Luma out with a hitbox and Grab, leaving no option.

  • Find an opening to reclaim neutral, whether it be a Grab, or aggressive aerial, or ZAir.

Platform Pressure

(What tools do they have? How can we escape this pressure?):

  • Rosalina’s USmash is very quick and can hit some platforms.

  • There’s also the potential for her to follow-up off an UTilt, or a landing UAir into another UAir for the kill.

  • Luma could also be desynced onto a platform.

  • Try to land elsewhere, away from Luma AND Rosalina.

Landing

(How do they cover it? What are my best options?):

  • Rosalina’s UAir is disjointed and kills. DAir can beat it on startup, but not consistently.

  • Rosalina’s UAir can just bounce Bomb too, so directly challenging her aerials with attacks won’t work out most of the time, but it can be a mix-up.

  • NAir can work by quickly stuffing attacks out, but Luma might be able to intercept. It’s worth trying if Luma is gone, though.

Offstage

(How Do I Escape This Position And What Do I Look Out For?):

  • Using Luma wavedashing tech, Rosalina can perfectly place Luma right at ledge. Luma becomes a ledge wall, with DTilts, Star Bits, or Smash Attacks.

  • ASA can beat out Luma when spaced correctly, and kill Luma.

  • You can drift under Luma if he’s positioned further out from the ledge.

  • Otherwise, be smart with tether.

  • Rosalina can edgeguard with FAir and DAir. She can go REALLY far out with FAir, so act quick if she goes for an edgeguard.

  • Don’t go under Rosalina offstage if she whiffs a FAir. You’ll be hit by a DAir right afterwards and die.

Ledge:

  • Getting back to center stage involves playing around both Rosalina AND Luma.

  • Rosalina’s BAir can hit ledge, or she can place Luma there to hit you. In that spot, Luma covers neutral getup and jump as well.

  • In conjunction with this, Rosalina can stand at roll distance to cover that.

  • Ledge attack can be reacted to as well, unless they’re holding Jab.

Advantage
What are my best options? What does advantage look like? What mix-ups are available?

Juggling/Boxing:

  • ZAir is great in the corner for poking at Rosalina and Luma.

  • DThrow becomes an effective way to remove Luma when Rosalina is cornered.

  • Boomerang is great for controlling space and finding confirms.

  • Rosalina really struggles with landing in general due to her fall speed and lack of movement mix-ups to help her land. Search for UAir kills and use your positioning to keep pressuring her.

Offstage:

  • Her Launch Star is really fast and goes far, but has no hitbox, and it has no invincibility whatsoever. If she’s stuck low, then go for a FAir.

  • Otherwise, staying on stage seems worth it, because Rosalina may shoot her recovery over the ledge and onto the stage. Luma can protect her as she is in freefall.

  • Rosalina can throw Luma onto the ledge to potentially hit you, helping her recover and escape ledgetrapping. Fire Arrows can halt Luma.

Miscellaneous
Other Tips/General Notes, Move Kill Percents

  • FD DTilt > ASA %s: 103, 92

  • FD FThrow @ Ledge%s: 161, 141

  • Milkshake %s: 94-129, 84-107

  • Rosalina Kill Throws: BThrow

Luma Notes:

  • Luma has 40 HP and respawns in 10 seconds. Luma may also die to simply being knocked offstage.

  • When launched away from Rosalina, Luma's attacks receive a 1.5× damage amplifier.

  • The Luma will have a steadily glowing "ring" around it to signify that it is separate.

  • The Luma will automatically face any opponents who get close to it.

  • Even if Rosalina is incapacitated, such as being Grabbed or buried, Luma can still attack.

  • Luma has set knockback and hitstun from moves. If sent into hitstun offstage, it will die.

  • Dash Attack near a ledge is a quick way to remove a lone Luma.

  • ZAir/Boomerang > FAir also works for removing Luma, but you must drift back on FAir as soon as the first hit connects to avoid Luma falling out.

  • ASA can be used instead of FAir in the aforementioned combo, but is risky.

  • If Luma is facing toward you, and you DThrow near ledge facing toward ledge, Luma will be pushed offstage by the first hit of DThrow.

  • You can also use BThrow to separate Rosalina and Luma, and kill the Luma with Rapid Jab.

  • Luma can still be hit when hiding inside a shield. At ledge, if Rosalina is shielding, you can FTilt the shield to KO Luma.

Stages

  • Battlefield:
Terrible. It’s hard to track down Rosalina on this stage, or follow up on pressure due to the layout. Landing is tough, and Rosalina likes this stage. Avoid it at all costs.

  • Final Destination:
Great. Rosalina struggles with projectile pressure on this stage due to her massive hurtbox.

  • Smashville:
Good. Rosalina can also struggle with projectiles here. There’s also a ton of space for budget firespike.

  • Town & City:
Good. Same reasons as PS2, but also it’s quite easy to trap Rosalina on the tall side platforms. The low side platforms may save Luma from dying occasionally, though.

  • Lylat Cruise:
Indifferent. Rosalina does have recovery issues here, and struggles to land on this stage, but getting off ledge can be a bit hard.

  • Pokémon Stadium 2:
Great. Lots of space to go back and forth between covering the air and pressuring with ZAir. The zones aren’t too far out either, so you’ll get to the ledge quick enough.

  • Kalos Pokémon League:
Terrible. Rosalina benefits way more from the side platforms, the zones are huge so she lives forever, the side zones are so far out, and there’s so much space for her to edgeguard and set up Luma, AND extend edgeguards with side platforms.

  • Yoshi’s Story:
Terrible. Same triplat issues as before, but also the double-edged sword of the smaller platforms. It's better than BF and Kalos, though.
